A Picture is Worth 1,000 Words

Spring is here! Spring means prom . .  graduations . . . and weddings. Prom, graduations, and weddings mean . . .  photos! Photos mean . . .  picture frames!

Yes, we all have hundreds of photos on our phones and computers, plus digital scrapbooks somewhere off in the cloud.  But memories like your  high-school prom, graduation, and weddings need to be expressed in something other than pixels.  These are shining moments in our lives that deserve a tangible presence: a printed photo in a special frame.  Think about it – what happens when you visit someone’s home for the first time? You’re immediately drawn to the photographs that are displayed around the house.  Why? Because those are the moments and the people that mean the most to them.

The next few weeks will bring many moments you’ll want to remember.  And the thrift shop ALWAYS has a selection of picture frames  in many styles and sizes.  Classic, casual, elegant or whimsical, portrait or collage-style – we may have the perfect frame to match your photo.

And while we’re on the subject of pictures – check out this link to our VIRTUAL TOUR OF THE THRIFT SHOP http://bit.ly/Q9PghZ

See our sign and our entrance, and get an up-close look at our merchandising layout.  This is a great way to show your family and friends the shop where you find all those bargains.  (And if you’re having thrift shop-withdrawal symptoms when we’re closed between Sunday and Tuesday, you can take the virtual tour to satisfy your cravings.)

We need your help! ONLY YOU can do this & make a difference!

mdday_color_logoVote for Assistance League – Make A Difference Day All-Star Award 2014!

Every year, USA Weekend Magazine and the Points of Light Foundation sponsor “Make A Difference Day,” a national day of service.  And to honor particularly compelling service projects, they’ve created a contest – the “Make A Difference Day All-Stars” contest for a $10,000 prize (awarded by the Gannett Foundation). You may not realize this, but Assistance League of Irvine is one of 120 Assistance League chapters across the nation.  And the National Assistance League organization has been chosen as one of the finalists for this prestigious award.  The winner will be selected by an on-line vote – so we need your votes to win! (More about how to vote, in a minute.)

We were selected because of our national 2013 Children’s Book Drive, in which 93 Assistance League chapters, including Assistance League of Irvine,  collected 103,000 books for children in schools, foster programs, and shelters.  That’s an average of 1,100 books per participating chapter!

We thank all of you who donated books to us for this book drive and helped make it such a success.  NOW we’re asking all of you to VOTE for us, to help National Assistance League win the All-Star prize!

You can vote for us at:   http://makeadifferenceday.com/vote-now.  Voting is open from now until March 4,  and is limited to ONE VOTE PER DAY.

As they used to say in the old days, vote early and often (i.e. daily).  Help Assistance League win the All-Star prize!
