Save The Date! Super Tuesday is coming!

It’s Super Tuesday! No, not THAT Super Tuesday – it’s our special extra shopping day on TUESDAY MARCH 1, when we bring out our SPRING MERCHANDISE! The shop will be open from 10 am to 3 pm on Tuesday, March 1 for you to get first pick of our fantastic spring selection.

We’ve got wonderful spring clothes in bright colors and lighter fabrics, plus shoes and handbags to match.  Check out our spring-themed housewares and decor, perfect for holiday entertaining.  And don’t forget the guys and the kids – they deserve a new spring wardrobe, too.

Yes, we know you’re still waiting for a chance to wear the wool sweater and the boots you bought for El Nino, but life goes on and spring is here at the thrift shop.  Come in on Tuesday (or Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Saturday if you can’t make it on Tuesday) and see our shop transformed for spring!

If you like crafting, ESPECIALLY SEWING AND QUILTING, we have a gold mine for you right now at the thrift shop. We have a huge number of Simplicity patterns for craft-type items like fabric purses and backpacks, children’s slippers, and caps, plus a few patterns for Christmas crafts. We also have a treasure trove of large pieces of material in different colors and patterns that would be perfect for quilting.

We’ve got a selection of miscellaneous sewing accessories to go with all this – pins, zippers, elastic tape, etc. And (as of this writing) we’ve got a beginner’s sewing kit in purple colors that would be perfect for a grandchild.

If you like paper crafts, check out our rubber stamps. We currently have a big supply of those, too, and it’s a great chance to add to your collection.

All these things are HERE NOW but may be GONE TOMORROW, so hurry in!

A happy heart is a healthy heart

How many times in the past week has someone said to you, “I can’t believe it’s already FEBRUARY!” For a short month, February has a lot of special occasions: Groundhog Day, Valentine’s Day, President’s Day, Chinese New Year, Vietnamese New Year, Mardi Gras, Super Bowl Sunday, the Grammy Awards, and the Oscars.

It’s also American Heart Month, and the American Heart Association website has lots of great ideas on how to keep your heart strong and healthy.

Along with tips on diet and exercise, the website says that one way to develop a healthier lifestyle is to “Practice giving back. Volunteer your time or spend time helping out a friend. Helping others helps you.”

When you shop at our thrift store, that’s exactly what you’re doing. You’re giving back to your community and helping other Irvine families. The money we earn at the shop supports our philanthropic programs, including Operation School Bell (clothing and school supplies for needy students in Irvine schools), the annual Young Masters children’s art show at City Hall, and needs-based scholarships at Irvine Valley College for graduating high-school seniors and returning adult students.

So when you come into the shop to look for cards and gifts for all those February holidays, remember – you’re also helping your heart!
